Happy Easter from TMIB

“Like Us” on Facebook to Help Increase Our Donation to a Local Charity

Upward Bound HouseTegner-Miller started a contest for our staff, clients and friends to increase the number of “likes” on our Facebook page, with each new “like” increasing the amount of our donation to a local, Santa Monica charity that we believe is making a positive difference in our community.  The charity we have selected to receive the donation is Upward Bound House whose mission is to eliminate homelessness among families with children.

When we started the contest we had 88  likes and set a goal to reach 250 “likes” by March 31, 2013.    We have made great progress and are already at 237 “likes”.  Only 13 to go!

Please help us reach our goal. Thank you in advance for your support.

Michael’s visit to Brennan’s Pub in
Marina Del Rey, CA

Brennans Pub in Marina del Rey

The clock on the wall at Brennan’s Pub reminds visitors every day about the upcoming Irish holiday.

Since 1972, Brennan’s has been the happy home for those enthusiastically anticipating a celebration every March 17th. The party kicks off early so be sure to rest up on Saturday night. Doors open at 6am. There will be green beer and Guinness ready to flow and corn beef and cabbage ready to be consumed. Live music starts at about 1pm and continues into the evening.

In contrast to last year’s stormy conditions; the weather this year will be mild with temperatures in the mid 60’s.

Brennan’s prepares extensively for the festivities and they are ready for a crowd. They will even have beer stands on their outside patio so no one will be waiting very long for their cup to be filled.

Then, after a full day of celebration, the clock on the wall will get reset and begin to tick down another year.

So if you thought that Brennan’s Pub was only the home of the famous turtle races go ahead and add another reason why this place stands apart from the rest.

TMIB is happy to have Brennan’s Pub as one of our clients.

Have an excellent St. Patty’s day and make sure you swing by Brennan’s Pub on Lincoln in Marina Del Rey. You can’t miss it! Please celebrate responsibly.

Michael Peattie

Meet Michael – TMIB Bar and Restaurant Insurance Specialist

You might have seen our recent post called: Michael’s Visit to Diablo Taco and wondered:

Who is Michael, why is he going to Diablo Taco and why is Tegner-Miller Insurance Brokers telling us about it?

The first question is easy.  I am Michael, a commercial insurance broker at TMIB who specializes in bar and restaurant insurance programs.

I grew up in southern California and found an early passion for the restaurant industry. From my first job bussing tables and running food to taking on larger roles my enthusiasm and devotion to the industry has only grown. I believe my hands-on bar/restaurant experience provides me with a unique combination: knowledge of bars, restaurants and insurance.

I pride myself on working side by side with restaurant and bar owners to address the insurable aspects of their operation and help them navigate the often complex area of risk management. I strive to provide the best possible customer service and find the best policy for the clients’ needs.  Although I specialize in bars and restaurants I am not limited to that niche and can help clients in any sector.

The second question is also easy.  I went to Diablo Taco because they are one of our many great clients and TMIB likes to patronize its clients.

Why talk about it?  We are talking about it because we like to tell others about good things. TMIB plans to continue to post blogs about my experiences at our clients’ bars and restaurants.

I am excited to tell others about our many great clients.  Whether I am talking about my dining experiences – complete with details about menus, specific plates, ambiance or the story behind the restaurant I will be posting many blogs about my adventures.  I hope you will find them informative and they help you discover a little gem.  Just tell them TMIB sent you!!

Deductibles and How They Affect Your Insurance Cost

Tegner Miller Did You KnowIn today’s Did YOU Know we will cover the term “Deductibles”:

When insurance companies advertise their policies, they will often tout 3 things: extensive coverage, low premiums, and low deductibles.

So what is a deductible and how will it affect how much you pay for insurance?

A deductible is the amount for which you will be responsible when a covered claim occurs.

1)  The deductible on your home insurance is $1,000, you have a kitchen fire and the repairs will cost $500.  Since your deductible of $1,000 is higher than the repairs, there will be no payment.

2)  The deductible on your home insurance is $1,000, you have a kitchen fire and the repairs will cost $3,000.  After applying the deductible of $1,000, the insurance company will issue a check for $2,000 for the repairs (the check may be payable to you or they may pay the contractor directly).

What accounts for the difference in deductibles, what deductible should you choose?

This is where premiums come into play. As mentioned in our last post, premiums are the annual cost of your insurance policy. We noted a few of the things that can make premiums fluctuate:  fast cars, dangerous careers, trampolines… However, there is another factor that can greatly influence your policy premium: your policy deductible.

When choosing your insurance policy, you should consider your risk threshold, lifestyle and personal history to determine whether you would prefer a lower premium or a lower deductible.

Of course, TMIB is here to help you determine the best coverage and deductible for your individual needs.  Please call us at 310-828-9662.
